GYFO SUMMER UPDATE

.
Spent last weekend streaming Subsonic music festival up on the New South Wales coast with the OnlineClubber cats and was left with a great impression of the local EDM scene.
Big love for Kid Kodiak, Timmus and A Guy Called Gerald, I will be watching these guys a little more closely from now on.
On the international side, Max Cooper blew my fuc%ing mind and Anna Leevia laid down some really sweet deep house during her 8am – 10am set that has inspired me in a few ways. The crowd was diverse enough to keep me entertained during the times I just could not dance anymore. Mark this bad boy in your calendars or diary’s for next year….. 7th/8th/9th December 2012.

The GYFO show is still alive at Onlineclubber.com from 9-11pm (GMT + 10) Fridays.

Yellow Sunshine Art Space – Festival Lead Up

Yellow Sunshine Art Space is just getting better with art being supplied by the nicest of artists Pierre Lloga!
His cartoon illustration inspired pieces are perfect for this outdoor event, so fitting with the adventurous atmosphere we plan for!

“Pierre Lloga is a Melbourne based, Melbourne born artist, illustrator, cartoonist, whateverist. If he could he would totally watch action movies all day and eat nothing but sugarry treats. Unfortunately, or fortunately (who can tell really) he also has an unhealthy fixation with drawing. As a result you will find Pierre scribbling in notebooks or on whatever surface looks remotely draw-on-able at pretty much any given time. Whilst forging his path of illustrative destruction, Pierre has come across many fine galleries and publications who have been kind enough to exhibit and publish his work as well as a multitude of amazing people who have provided walls and other fun spaces on which to paint and draw.
Inspired by a steady diet of junk food, comic books and outlandish movies, Pierre’s work focuses mainly on cartoonish, sometimes nightmarish or whimsical alternate realities, where cats fly spaceships, a robot can be your best friend and girls dump their boyfriends by tying them up and leaving them in drums of acid. While having a preference for drawing in brush and ink, Pierre also works in all manner of media such as paint, spray, pencil, graphite, digital, pastel and anything else he can get his hands on.
Since graduating from art school, Pierre has worked as an illustrator for numerous clients doing everything from, magazine and children’s book illustration, design, concept art, posters, album covers, to storyboards, comics and murals. He also maintains a fairly regular exhibiting schedule.”

Yellow Sunshine Art Space – Festival Lead Up

Hey there Yellow Sunshiners!

Its not far from now so we are going to throw a whole lot of artists your way!

Today we have another fine artist for your viewing pleasure, one of Rival Revolution Studio’s own Andrew Sieker!
This Acrylic, Fine Art, Mixed medium and Airbrush equipped man will be both showing his art at the pop up gallery and putting on a live paint show along with some other spray Kings and Queens!

Andrew Sieker is an emerging artist based in the southeast suburbs of Melbourne. Andrew predominantly works
in airbrush and acrylic on canvas, and also has skills in sculpture, illustration, digital art and design. Heavily
influenced by sci-fi culture, psychedelic art, pop surrealism, and concept art, his work has a strong emphasis
on freeform and abstract pattern, with themes of an ambiguous relation between an imaginative kitsch cosmic
inwards/outwards universe. With a strong emphasis on colour, pattern and loose brushwork, the images that
emerge offer sense of dreamlike exploration in alien worlds, where a vague sense of the familiar offers multiple
avenues for interpretation.

Andrew Began studying Cert IV in graphic design at Swinburne in 2006, then moved on in 2007 to study in a
Bachelor of Visual art and design an ACU. In 2011, He deferred his studies to work on developing a painting
studio. So far in 2011 Andrew has been making private sales of his work, Displayed and painted live at events
such as Killcouture at Royal Melbourne Hotel, and Yellow sunshine Launch party. Future aims and goals include
returning in 2012 to complete his Bachelor, build a body of work to host a solo exhibition, and involve and
immerse himself with community based, as well as funded and private art initiatives and projects. Long term
goals include developing a broad yet identifiable style applicable across multiple media platforms, for use in both
commercial and experimental applications.

Sunny Sunshine to you fellow’s and fella’s!
Our friend and fresh graffiti and street artist Jack Douglas will also be putting up for the Art Space at Yellow Sunshine and here is a little look at his super stuffs!

Heralding from the outer Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne, Jack Douglas grew up during a time when the mullet and happy pants were still in fashion. Propelled by this awesomeness, he drew great influence from Hanna-Barbera, Looney Toones, tattoo flash, skateboard graphics, comics and the artwork of Salvador Dali and MC Escher. During his teens he discovered graffiti art the pop surrealism and the rest is history. The images he spews from his mind are often grotesque, shining a spotlight on those less fortunate than us and those who dwell on the outskirts of our society and the darkly humerous situations they seem to land themselves in.”

There is no mistaking Mishke and her unique style, this Rival Revolution Studio member is up next for Yellow Sunshine.

Mishke is relatively happy person who has a soft spot for patterns, broken things, supermarket haters and cigarettes.
Usually creating her works via mixed media (pencils, ink, and watercolours) and permanently infatuated with expressing the female form. Miskhe is almost always hungry, so watch out for your burger rings!!

Well its about time for some Max Well (holding back on the Smart pun)

Max Well is one of the brilliant artistic residence at Rival Revolution Studios and brings that meticulous minimal style to centre the crazy whirlwind of a world we live in…and Yellow Sunshine will shine brighter with his touch.

Max Well is an emerging artist that calls Melbourne home. In between painting the train lines and murals Max busy’s himself in the studio.
His hand screened printed work reduces his thoughts to the bare minimum and makes us think differently by playing with what we know as negative and positive space.
Through use of this juxtaposition Max is able to create beautifully simplistic images

Another one of Rival Revolution Studio’s own will be a part of the Yellow Sunshine Art Space, the Studio Mama:  Jianna Lucia will be painting live as well as displaying her Aerosol, acrylic and Mixed Medium wears for all to see and purchase – some special surprises coming from this gorgeous gal!

“I have an appreciation and love for the arts and life in general.
I am currently based in Melbourne, and have previously been
based in Byron Bay where I completed a bachelor degree in
visual arts, majoring in painting.
I am interested in art curation and the hybridization and juxtaposition
of arts genres, I enjoy combining a broad spectrum of different means of creative arts
practices together, such as illustration, painting, graphic design, toymaking, singing and writing.

I recently curated the 100 Fires art exhibition at the Rites Of Passage tattoo convention in January 2011 in Melbourne.
And have been part of the Hello Poster show, a group exhibition held at 1000 pound bend in December 2010.
I have Also Worked as a Graphic Designer for Australian Tattooz Magazine and as an apprentice Tattooist @ Cemetery Gates Tattoo and 696 Ink.
I am currently a part of Rival Revolution an Invurt studios in Melbourne City.

like the idea of the visual representation of urban and man made concepts and constructs that are in and around our everyday life in the city and industrial designed environment of the metropolis in the year 2011.

I like to take these objects and devices out of context to televised reality and recreate this imagery by juxtaposing and contrasting these innovative ideas to the natural environment, objects and human lifeforms according to the processes of life in plants, animals and the essences of humanity in tribal societies.
I like to constantly draw comparisons of these ideas of humanity within and outside the man made and natural environment using artistic means and practices through my work.”

Yellow Sunshine Art Space – Festival Lead Up!

For Yellow Sunshine Art Space up next we have the outstanding James Flaxman and his existential art creations.

James Flaxman was born in Sydney, Australia, in 1978, but has since moved to Melbourne and never looked back.

His work draws on a wide range of sources; while traditional Western painters of the fifteenth to nineteenth century hold his highest admiration, he has also been influenced by everything from ancient myths to contemporary game design.

The themes he explores are just as diverse. Some are deeply personal, some poke fun at popular culture, and others deal with such timeless issues as what it truly means to be human, how the world we build affects us in return, our struggle to invest life with meaning and our enduring legacy.

Yellow Sunshine Art Space – Festival Lead Up!

Well hello there, today we have another grand artist bio from the Yellow Sunshine Art Space batch

We would like you to meet Essig!

Roger Anthony Essig

“I’m a based in Melbourne and have been taking my artworks to festivals, rock concerts and psy-trance parties for the past decade in South Australia, Victoria and once in Los Angeles, California.
My art is very psychedelic and bright, high contrast, with a high degree of detail.
Lately I have found a way to get participation from anyone feeling that creative urge. They are free and welcome to come up and help me work on the artwork live at the event.
People will introduce their own unique style to their section they claim, and I treat that as a seed and continue their style into the surrounding sections. I love to work on artworks at events
and recently completed a 5 year project of a work that has over 4000 nails and a matrix of string connecting them. You are welcome to visit my website to view more of my works.”
